Just Wondering…

October 18, 2010 by notjustcute Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

I spent the weekend working on an eBook on Positive Guidance that I hope to have ready to share with you soon!  I’d love to tell you the title, but I’m still a bit stumped on that.  Do I go with practical and descriptive, or catchy and literary?  Roll into that the challenge of summing up so much information with just a few words.  I find it challenging!

So I thought I’d share a similar challenge.  If your everyday life was the subject of a book, how would you sum it up in a title?  I think I’d go with “The Joys of Boys: Why I Fly with Superheros“.  Or maybe, “Hidden Chocolate: One Mom’s Story of Survival“.  Gripping, isn’t it?

So what’s yours?  I’m anxious to hear your literary label!

Hmm. That’s tough! I actually would steal either of your witty titles. They are both fitting for me. Otherwise I might title it something like, “why Target is my refuge in times of trouble”. I can’t wait for the e-book…I really need it!

This week is “baby week” on my blog, and when I get to the portion of what every new mom needs to know I’m going to include your blog!

    Thanks for being great–abby

Abby, you made my day! I can’t wait to see what “baby week” has in store! (Oh, and I can totally relate to Target as a refuge!)

Hey! Thanks for stopping by my blog:)
I struggle with a similar problem when I write. I either sound extremely goofy and nonsensical or a mother-of-four-knowitall who you would never want to sit next to at a dinner party. It’s a hard balance. But here’s what I do: when I read it aloud, does it sound like me? If I were talking to a stranger on a bus who was struggling with a mothering problem, would it come off as overbearing or flippant?
    I’m sure it sounds great.
My title would be, “How to have fun on the dark side of mothering.”
    Too dark? Too goofy?
    See?:)

Tricky, right? That fine line between relatable and goofy, know-it-all and informed. I like your title though. “The dark side” has so many metaphorical meanings! 🙂

That could be a best-seller! Certainly relatable!

Literary labels, huh? I’m pretty sure no one would want to read about my life. Hence no journaling, only occasional mass emails to family and friends. 🙂 However, I do have some funny stories to tell and honest awakenings in my life. I suppose I’d go with a title like, “The Occasional Awakenings: One Woman’s Goal” or “Womanhood: Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Friend”

I attribute the lack of creativity in a literary title to my mommy brain which is running on full power right now. 🙂

Best of luck to you, Mandy. Can’t wait to get the details on the e-book.

I think Occasional Awakenings is a great title! What do you mean “lack of creativity”? You still amaze me!

I like your titles, “Hidden chocolate”!
I think mine would be something like:

“Bumping up and down in my little red wagon. An idealist mother and her truth about family life”.

    or maybe

“Knights and Soccer. Learning how to rear three little men with Gentelhood and Skill “.

I´ll keep thinking about this question, it´s great!

I love the little red wagon title and the juxtaposition of idealism and the realism of truth. Very clever…I have such smart readers!

Based on the titles you made for your life, sounds like you gravitate toward “catchy” titles anyway. Honestly, I’m personally more likely to pick up a parenting book if I’m even slightly charmed by the title. I think the practical and descriptive ones almost sound like someone’s thesis title–boring!!

My title…? The Sweetness of Life.
