Oh, What Do You Do in the Autumn Time?

October 3, 2011 by notjustcute Filed Under: Create, Get Outside, Learning through Play and Experience, Uncategorized 3 Comments

As I’m watching the leaves turn bright red on the mountain near my home, I thought I should share some of my favorite fall activities.  I listed study themes for fall, and accompanying activities over here.  Just to highlight a few of my personal favorites that I can’t wait to get into our activity line up:

Cinnamon Spice Playdough.  This is my absolute favorite playdough!  Just having it out fills the whole playroom with a delicious scent.  It’s like aromatherapy, putting me in a good mood right away!

Parachute with Leaves.  Adding real or imitation leaves to your usual parachute activities adds a fun fall twist.  Watching fluttering leaves is one of the best parts of the season!

Leaf Man.  I love Lois Ehlert’s books. Leaf Man and Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf are two books I have to revisit every fall.  The Leaf Man activity is one of my favorites, as we create imaginative collages from the treasures we collect outside.

Pumpkin Bread. I have to make this with my kiddos every year as well.  I usually make two batches, one with chocolate chips and one without.  Everybody’s happy.

There are so many activities out and about on the interwebs that are calling my name this season as well.  Some old favorites and some new ones I can’t wait to try.  Here’s a sampling:

I also linked some of my favorite fall activities from around the web last year found here.

Whew!  That’s quite a list!  But I’m sure I’m missing some gems out there.  So, what’s your favorite fall activity?

I will definitely have to try the pumpkin bread! We recently made pumpkin muffins (I did blog about it) and I fell in love with them. I’m a little ashamed to admit that I wound up eating one for every meal until they were gone. Haha. I’m sure I’ll fall in love with that bread! Thank you for sharing. We recently made some pumpkin pie play dough, but I just made up the recipe as I went along. I added some extracts to make it a little less spicy and a little more sweet smelling. We loved it! Here’s our recipe..

We also made a bucket list for this fall. We have 80 ideas to choose from this season. I hope that you can find something you might like on our list. It can be found here..

Thanks for sharing your ideas, Joyce. That pumpkin pie playdough sounds heavenly! I’ve never thought to put maple extract in. Brilliant!
