Make a Real Connection

February 8, 2013 by notjustcute Filed Under: Child Development & DAP, Uncategorized 8 Comments

Less than ideal from a connection standpoint.

lying scissors

My son cut a hole in his t-shirt the other day.  Well, according to him, the scissors were just walking on the counter when they walked right over to him and cut a hole in his shirt.  Now, you and I know which scenario is most likely true, but does he?  That gets complicated.

This ginormous pile of snow represents a whole lot of time spent shoveling this winter!  We hope to see the ground by May.  I had a good laugh as my native-born Utahans played a game of King of the “Mou’ain”.  (Just ask a Utahan to say “mountain” or watch this news story and you’ll see what I mean.) February 1, 2013 by notjustcute Filed Under: Positive Guidance and Social Skills, Uncategorized 15 Comments

A great question came up on my Facebook page (if you’re not following me yet, you can start that here).  It was essentially this:

How do you recognize the difference between when a child is ‘acting out’ and when a child has lost complete control of his emotions and can’t self regulate their actions, and how do you navigate them in both cases?

100 Ways to Ruin Your Kids

January 22, 2013 by notjustcute Filed Under: Learning through Play and Experience, Uncategorized 6 Comments

An amazing friend of mine wrote a post entitled, “100 Ways to Be Kind to Your Child“.  It’s a fantastic piece, one written by a real mom with all the sincerity of her heart.  She’s a mom who knows as well as any that there are times when the stress of the day piles on until you feel like you could very well snap.  So she created this great resource. 100 ideas for a parent to choose to be kind, and to be intentional and mindful in those simple acts of kindness. (You really should read it.)

January 18, 2013 by notjustcute Filed Under: Learning through Play and Experience, Uncategorized, Unit Themes 7 Comments

It’s certainly winter time around here, as the three and  a half foot berm of snow that has been shoveled and blown from our driveway will attest.  If it’s winter in your neck of the woods, I thought you might like a list of ideas for activities you could use in creating a winter themed unit.

I’m Amanda Morgan. Here’s what I’m about…

In early education, there is too much distance between what we know and what we do. I bridge the gaps that exist between academia, decision-makers, educators, and parents so that together, we can improve the quality of early education while also respecting and protecting the childhood experience.
